    If that doesn’t work, search on ‘opal matrix rough botryoidal’ for images.

    I’m not a gemologist, but I think it’s worth a look.

    1. TCC: Many thanks, duly noted in the image description and title. This was from a book on British minerals, so to all of our British readers, please know that your country may have opals. (We had no idea).

  2. I consulted my brother, who has an MS in geology, and he says it could be opal, and also that the British Isles pretty much have some of everything geologically speaking. But he can’t absolutely say what it is.
